Abstract

O ensaio iniciou no dia 30-5-2019 e terminou a 17-10-2019. Não existiu correlação entre CAR e as características de carcaça (P>0,05); Residual feed intake (RFI) in Mertolengo cattle breed Abstract: The main objective of this study is to approach a selection methodology for feed efficiency called residual feed intake (RFI) and the determination of their body composition by ultrasound in Mertolenga steers. Twenty-six Mertolenga steers were evaluated, during 140 days, with an adaptation period of 30 days. The trial started on 30-5-2019 and ended on 17-10-2019. We established three efficiency classes were established, the most efficient (RFI+0.5xSDRFI). The mean value of RFI in the most efficient, intermediate and least efficient classes was -0.49; -0.01 and 0.56kg DM/day, respectively. The difference indicated that more efficient animals consumed, on average, 1.05kg DM/day less than the less efficient ones, with body weight and similar DG (P>0.05). The use of ultrasonography in the animals was also tested to evaluate body composition in the region of the 12th and 13th ribs. There was no correlation between RFI and carcass characteristics (P>0.05).
