Abstract

As práticas e comportamentos dos idosos e dos seus cuidadores têm sido associadas ao risco e à ocorrência de queda. A investigação tem estudado o impacto do medo de queda no idoso e revela que este está presente nos profissionais implicando alterações nas relações e aumentando a pressão sobre este para que se mantenha em segurança. O objetivo deste estudo é compreender as causas e as influências do medo de queda nos cuidadores. Optou-se pela Teoria Fundamentada por possibilitar explicar a partir da compreensão das ações no contexto. Efetuou-se observação participante, entrevistas a cuidadores informais, enfermeiros, médicos e diretoras de duas instituições. Os cuidadores sabem que a queda é acompanhada do estigma da culpa e do risco de ação penal. A principal medida que introduzem nas suas práticas para a prevenir é sobre proteção do idoso, limitando-lhe a atividade física e a restrição da participação.
