Abstract

Aponta, igualmente, para a zona do joelho e do tornozelo como zonas potenciais de lesão do patinador, especialmente do patinador de patinagem livre; PHYSICAL COMPLAINS AND INJURIES RELATED TO THE PRACTICE OF ARTISTIC ROLLER SKATING IN PORTUGAL: AN EPIDEMIOLOGICAL STUDY ABSTRACT: Although is noticeable growth, Figure skating is an underrated sport at several levels. As a competitive sport it demands for technical skills, interpretation and representation, requiring skaters high performance levels (Lagoa, 2009; FPP, 2017), as well as intensive and systematic training, which may lead to an increase in injury risk (Porter, Young, Niedfeldt, & Gottschlich, 2007). This study aims to contribute for the lack of empiric and research results on figure skaters, by listing injury and physical complaints of an artistic skater´s group, associating them with its typology, causes and practice specificity. Results show that dramatic changes in training plans and persistent equipment maintenance and change my be seen as injury associated behaviour. It also points to the knee and ankle areas as potencial injury areas, specially in freestyle skaters.
