A arquitectura inicia-se pela junção ou subtracção de materiais disponíveis na natureza. Dependen- do do clima a madeira, a terra e a pedra são os elementos que mais se empregavam no início desta actividade. Destes três, ora conjugados entre si, ora isolados, o que atravessa as problemáticas do clima e dos anos com maior resistência é sem dúvida a pedra. Primeiramente será enquadrado o testemunho de povos longínquos através da pedra, obras que nos chegam através deste material resistente e duradouro, para de seguida o enquadrar na história mais recente da arquitectura, nomeadamente até ao arquitecto Eduardo Souto de Moura e entender quais os métodos que se mantêm e quais os que evoluíram e são hoje uma inovação; ABSTRACT: The architecture begins by attaching or removing materials available in nature.
