Os protocolos com antibioterapia e selante revelaram-se eficazes na redução das infeções já existentes; Evaluation of three dry-off protocols in dairy cattle Abstract: Mastitis is one of the most important diseases in a dairy farm, where the dry period is a good time for its treatment. In the present study, the animals were subjected to three different dryoff protocols, one consisting only in an internal sealant and the other two by a combination of an antibiotic and the same sealant. The criterion of choice for each protocol was based on the mean of the last two somatic cell counts (SCC). The somatic cell count at the time of dry-off was used to check the accuracy of this criterion, and it was verified that in 45.5% of cases there was no agreement between the two moments of evaluation. All protocols showed to be effective in the prophylaxis of subclinical mastitis, including the use of merely teat sealant, which was effective in preventing new infections. Protocols with antibiotic and sealant were effective in reducing existing infections.
