Modelação estatística da fecundidade

Abstract

The decline in fertility is an emerging problem in Portugal. There has never been as few births in Portugal as today, and our country currently has one of the lowest levels of fertility in Europe and the world. This dissertation had as its main objective to statistically model the realized fertility based on the data of the Fertility Survey 2013 (IFEC2013). For this the regression models of Poisson, Ordinal, Inflated Zeros, Hurdle and Bayesian were adjusted to the data, to evaluate the most appropriate approach. The Poisson model proved to be the most parsimonious. In this model, the sex, age, number of individuals in the household, schooling, age at which the parent household was left, the presence of stepchildren and the existence of first conjugality are determining factors for an increase in fertility. A projection of the realized fertility was realized for 2020, and this projection was compared with the results of the desired fertility and expected final fertility obtained by IFEC2013.
