The aim of this work was to define the possibilities of autonomy and autharchy in Architecture. It is considered that there can be found current manifestations with peculiar characteristics of these postures, in those spaces that have been refered here as periurbanity. The research model falls under the category of action research; this action, in the present case, consisted in the actual construction of architectural structures with the purpose of self-sufficiency. The historical data that was collected was framed on the theme of utopias. The case studies, all of them active, figured as current expressions of that History, where there were recognized manifestations of autonomy and of autharchy. It was introduced the subject of the images with which Science is made, in order to find a suitable protocol to consider what it was intended to discuss. The research methodology held an analytical study of the systems, processes and materials of the architecture of the periurbanity. Finally, it was considered that the new possibilities of inscription, define a place in History of Architecture for the periurbanity condition; RESUMO: O objectivo desta dissertação foi o de definir as possibilidades de autonomia e de autarquia em Arquitectura. Considera-se que podem ser encontradas manifestações actuais e com características próprias destas posturas, em espaços que foram referidos como periurbanidades. O modelo de investigação adoptado enquadra-se na categoria de action research; esta acção, no presente caso, consistiu na construção efectiva de estruturas arquitectónicas com o propósito da auto-suficiência. A recolha de informação histórica foi enquadrada na investigação sobre as utopias. Os casos de estudo, todos eles em actividade, figuraram como expressões actuais daquela História, onde se reconheceram manifestações de autonomia e de autarquia. Foi convocado o tema das imagens com que a Ciência se faz, de modo a encontrar um protocolo adequado à reflexão que se pretendia desenvolver. A metodologia de investigação procedeu a um estudo analítico dos sistemas, processos e materiais da arquitectura da periurbanidade. Por fim, foi considerado que as novas possibilidades de inscrição, configuram um lugar na História da Arquitectura para a condição de periurbanidade.
