Abstract

Recentemente, a comunidade científica tem recuperado o interesse pelas propriedades farmacológicas e nutricionais, de entre outras, dos compostos utilizados na manufactura de diversas obras artísticas, particularmente dos Tapetes de Arraiolos. No presente trabalho, a Apigenina, Luteolina, Canferol e Quercetina, cromóforos amarelos responsáveis por esta cor nos Tapetes de Arraiolos, foram estudados pelo método DFT, com recurso a uma descrição detalhada e inovadora do ambiente físico-químico em torno do cromóforo, tendo em vista a clarificação das alterações no espectro de absorção UV-Vis destes cromóforos consequentes do processo artesanal da mordentagem. Deste modo, determinou-se a relação entre as propriedades electrónicas e estruturais dos compostos estudados com a cor final por eles exibida; a origem das transições electrónicas aqui calculadas, orientadas tanto por auxocromos como pelo mordente e altamente dependentes da geometria molecular, é pela primeira vez associada a orbitais localizadas na fibra de lã, até agora considerada ausente do fenómeno da cor; Abstract: Theoretical study of the natural dye-mordant complex responsible for the final colour of dyed textiles Recently, the scientifical community has regain interest for the pharmacological and nutritional properties, among others, of compounds utilized in the manufacture of several artworks, particularly the Arraiolos Tapestries. In the present work, Apigenin, Luteolin, Kaempferol and Quercetin, yellow chromophores responsible for this colour in the Arraiolos Tapestries, were studied by the DFT method, with the aid of a detailed and innovative depiction of the physical-chemical surroundings of the chromophore, aiming for the clarification of the changes in these chromophores’ UV-Vis absorption spectrum derived from the arthesanal mordenting process. Thus has been determined the relation between studied compounds’ electronical and structural properties and the final colour they exhibit; the origin of the electronical transitions here calculated, driven by both auxochroms and mordant and highly dependant of molecular geometry, is by the first time associated to orbitals located on the wool fibre, this far considered absent of the phenomenon of colour.
