La fortificación del califato almohade

Abstract

Do legado cultural de mais de sete séculos de presença islâmica no território peninsular ibérico, a arquitectura militar é talvez o mais expressivo e generalizado, aquele que influenciou e se viu adaptado, que sobreviveu e deixou marcas. Boa parte dos castelos do sul são herança muçulmana e a eles corresponde um esquema de organização militar que os cristãos não irão desdenhar. A organização castral da fase omíada está bem documentada em fortalezas como Castros e Vascos mas também nos pequenos husun rurais, integrando uma estratégia de povoamento e islamização consumada com o califado. Em períodos posteriores (primeiras taifas, período almorávida) são várias as novidades técnicas e as confluências, embora com grande diversidade regional. O período almóada é o melhor representado em Portugal, com vários exemplos de muralhas em taipa, de torres poligonais e torres albarrãs (Alcácer do Sal, Moura, Tavira, entre outros). No sul de Espanha, onde a presença islâmica perdurou até finais do séc. XV, há que particularizar aspectos construtivos militares do período nasarí. Os conhecimentos muçulmanos em arquitectura militar são reconhecidos e aproveitados pós-reconquista, quer através dos serviços de artífices mudéjares, quer pela adaptação das anteriores fortalezas.
