AND SURGERY ACQUIRED HYDROCEPHALUS During the training period, the most frequent species was the dog (86%) in which 65% was referenced to the neurological sector, which represents the highest incidence during the practices (69.9%). According to neurolocalization, spinal disorders had the highest incidence (52%) followed by brain lesions (26%). Concerning aetiology, degenerative neurological diseases had the highest record (30.1%), followed by those with inconclusive diagnosis (16.2%). Hydrocephalus is not a specific disease but rather a multifactorial disorder with a variety of pathophysiological mechanisms involved. It is characterized by a dynamic imbalance between the production and absorption of spinal fluid resulting in an increase in the size of the ventricles and, in some situations, in an expansion of the spaces outside the brain, with or without ventriculomegaly. It can be seen in any kind and it can be congenital or acquired, typically caused by obstruction to CSF flow in the intraventricular pathway.
