Empleo de endolisinas frente a Gram-negativos

Abstract

El creciente problema de las resistencias a los antibióticos ha causado que se empiecen a buscar y desarrollar alternativas para tratar las infecciones que han sido provocadas por bacterias patógenas. Una de estas alternativas que está llegando con fuerza son las endolisinas, unas enzimas líticas derivadas de los bacteriófagos que tienen como objetivo la lisis de las bacterias al actuar sobre la pared celular. Gracias a ventajas que poseen, como lo son su alta especificidad o su ausencia de resistencias, son una alternativa muy prometedora para desplazar a los antibióticos, aunque aún deben demostrar su superioridad sobre estos. Sin embargo, las bacterias Gram-negativas presentan una capa externa más compleja y resistente que las hace menos susceptibles a la acción de las endolisinas respecto a las bacterias Gram-positivas. A día de hoy se están desarrollando nuevas estrategias para mejorar su acción contra las bacterias Gram-negativas y convertirlas en una opción viable para el tratamiento de infecciones bacterianas.
