Non invasive ventilation BiPAP pathway

Abstract

Background / Problem Identified: Respiratory failure is a syndrome in which the respiratory system fails in one of both of its gas exchange functions. Type 2 failure is defined by a PaO2 of 6 kPa. The use of Bi Level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP) has been shown to be an effective treatment option for people with Type 2 respiratory Failure. The aim of this audit was determine if patients with T2RF were correctly diagnosed and appropriately treated with BiPAP as per hospital protocol.
