The relationships within the beetle family Eucnemidae were evaluated with special emphasis on the subfamily Eucneminae. The monophyly of the subfamilies Melasinae, Eucneminae and Deomaeolinae was confirmed. The earlier placement of the tribe Dendrocharini in Eucneminae was shown to be based on incorrectly understood homologies and it was removed from Eucneminae. Temnillini new tribe, type genus Temnillus Bonvouloir, 1871, is erected in Eucneminae. Eucneminae tribes Entomosatopini Muona, 1993 and Galbitini Muona, 1993 are regarded as synonyms and the name Galbitini is chosen as the valid name. Mesogenus Bonvouloir, 1871 is regarded as a subjective junior synonym of Stethon Leconte, 1866. Feaia Fleutiaux is transferred from Mesogenini to Muonajini and Arisus Bonvouloir, Euryostus Bonvouloir, Entomosatopus Bonvouloir, Submesogenus Fleutiaux and Vitellius Bonvouloir are transforred from Mesogenini to Galbitini. A key to extant Eucneminae genera is presented.
