Abstract

Yliopisto-opetuksen perinne ulottuu antiikkiin asti. Luento, jossa opettaja puhuu ja joukko opiskelijoita kuuntelee, on edelleen suosittu opetusmuoto, vaikka sitä on kovin vaikea perustella nykypedagogiikan avulla. Luento tukee huonosti itsenäistä ja aktiivista oppimista. Etsiessämme perusteita luennolle opetusmuotona meidän onkin palattava menneisyyteen aina Aristoteleeseen saakka. Toisaalta antiikin perintö on aina Platonista alkaen tavoitellut myös aivan toisenlaista oppimista kuin passiivinen kuuntelu. Tässä sokraattisessa perinteessä opettaja ei jaa tietoa vaan auttaa opiskelijaa oivaltamaan itse. Olemme siis saaneet antiikista perinnöksi sekä huonoa että hyvää. Palauttamalle mieleemme antiikin lähtökohdat voimme hahmottaa paremmin omia näkemyksiämme ja nähdä myös mahdollisuuksia uudistumiselle.
