Una lectura neogótica para la equiparación Wamba-Alfonso VIII en De rebus Hispaniae

Abstract

El trabajo propone un análisis de la obra del arzobispo toledano Rodrigo Jiménez de la Rada (ca. 1170-1247) De rebus Hispaniae (1243), obra maestra que estudia la historia de los diferentes pueblos y reinos peninsulares, especialmente la historia y presencia goda. El estudio se centra en analizar de manera pormenorizada e incluyendo fragmentos tanto originales en latín como su traducción, la figura del rey Wamba y del rey Alfonso VIII, comparándoles y manifestando el carácter virtuoso, modélico y ejemplar de ambos. Ensalzando la figura de estos reyes como defensores de la unidad y de la alianza de la Iglesia con la monarquía, se presenta la crónica del arzobispo como una defensa de la autoridad monárquica y el buen gobierno
