Las reinas ibéricas y la diplomacia barroca: un estudio comparativo de las regencias de Luísa de Gusmão y Mariana de Austria

Abstract

Las regencias de Luísa de Gusmão y Mariana de Austria marcaron un hito fundamental en la historia política y diplomática de las monarquías ibéricas. Luísa gobernó en Portugal entre 1656 y 1662, y Mariana fue regente de España entre 1665 y 1675. A lo largo de varios años, ambas mujeres tuvieron que hacer frente a problemáticas comunes. En el escenario internacional, Luísa y Mariana se desempeñaron como auténticas reinas diplomáticas interviniendo en los conflictos bélicos de su época y mediando en la concertación de treguas que les permitieron construir coaliciones tanto defensivas como ofensivas. En este artículo realizaré un análisis comparativo del rol político y diplomático de las regentes con la intensión de demostrar cómo ambas reinas contribuyeron a la preservación de los estados territoriales de sus hijos, los reyes niños Alfonso VI y Carlos II.
