Abstract

Una de las disciplinas que más evolucionó en sus métodos de investigación a lo largo del siglo xix fue la lengua y la literatura. La incorporación al estudio de la lengua de los métodos comparativo e histórico permitió mostrar el desarrollo de las lenguas desde sus orígenes y agruparlas en distintas familias y de esta forma poder reconstruir su pasado. Estos avances metodológicos además facilitaron un enorme progreso al considerar la lengua como su propio objeto de estudio, esto permitió que el análisis de las lenguas tuviera un método propio que debía ser llevado a cabo por especialistas. Hasta entonces los estudios lingüísticos se realizaban desde campos tan distintos como, la religión, la filosofía, la historia, la retórica. El estudio de la lengua comienza a realizarse mediante el establecimiento una gradación de sus unidades, que van de la oración a la palabra, de la sílaba al sonido. Esto facilita el descubrimiento de sus procesos formativos, pero también pone al servicio de los hablantes las herramientas necesarias para conocer sus estructuras internas y disponer de esta forma de elementos suficientes para crear sus discursos nuevos, para innovar con ellos.
