Medicinas paralelas e prática social

Abstract

La enfermedad es de carácter social. Para entender esta propuesta es preciso conocer el contexto que produce el mal. En este artículo se analiza la teoría social sobre el enfermo y la enfermedad en Occidente, recurriendo a una encuesta sobre los sistemas de pensamiento y de acción a los que recurren los enfermos: la ciencia, la religión y el esoterismo. Después de la caracterización de las concepciones de cura y de los itinerarios terapéuticos recorridos por los enfermos, se presentan algunas señales de alteración de mentalidades y de prácticas en lo que respecta a la existencia y a la salud.

Toute maladie est produite socialement. Pour comprendre cette proposition, il est nécessaire de connaître le contexte qui produit le mal. Dans cet article on analyse la théorie sociale sur les malades et sur la maladie en Occident, en faisant appel à des recherches faites sur les systèmes de pensée et d"action auxquels les malades ont recours: la science, la religion et l"ésotérisme. Ayant caractérisé les conception de cure et les itinéraires thérapeutiques des malades, on présente quelques signes de transformation des mentalités et des pratiques en ce qui concerne l"assistance et la santé.

A doença é de carácter social. Para entender esta proposta é preciso conhecer o contexto que produz o mal. Neste artigo analisa-se a teoria social acerca do doente e da doença no Ocidente, recorrendo a pesquisa feitas sobre os sistemas de pensamento e de acção a que recorrem os doentes: a ciência, a religião e o esoterismo. Após a caracterização das concepções de cura e dos itinerários terapêuticos percorridos pelos doentes, apresenta-se alguns sinais de alteração de mentalidades e de práticas no que respeita à assistência e à saúde.

Any disease is socially produced. To understand this proposal, it is necessary to know the context in which disease is produced. An analysis is made of the social theory about disease and sick people in western society, including the systems of thought and action which the sick turn to: science, religion and esotericism. After a characterisation of the conceptions of cure and therapeutic itineraries, the article formulates some signs of change in mentalities and practices regarding assistance and health.
