Imigrantes e estrutura social

Imigrantes e estrutura social

Abstract

Based on the official statistics available, an analysis is made of the evolution of the spatial localisation, socio-demographic characteristics and socio-professional composition of the different immigrant groups resident in Portugal for the period between 1986 and 1996, including: Europeans from the EU, Brazilians and Africans from the Portuguese-speaking African (PALOP) countries, an individual study being made of the case of the Guineans, who belong to the last group. This analysis refers to comparative data for other European countries, and emphasises the strongly asymmetrical regional distribution of these populations and the contrasting positions they occupy in the social structure.
