Ao longo desta dissertação e uma vez definido um quadro teórico de referência, procurou-se analisar um conjunto de questões levantadas pela criação e gestão dos legados de artista e explorar o papel desempenhado pelos diferentes atores do ecossistema na sua preservação, estudo e disseminação em Portugal. A existência ou não de planeamento sucessório e as opções tomadas no seu âmbito, atento o quadro legal e fiscal aplicável, mereceram particular atenção. As reflexões feitas, com foco nos artistas modernos e contemporâneos, foram sustentadas numa análise da literatura da especialidade e da documentação pertinente, bem como em dados qualitativos recolhidos com base em testemunhos de atores com perfis vários. Tornou-se assim possível identificar padrões e desafios que permeiam este campo, ao mesmo tempo que proporcionam uma compreensão mais profunda das dinâmicas entre artistas, herdeiros e instituições envolvidas na preservação dos legados. As questões levantadas ao longo da dissertação sugerem um conjunto de reflexões finais onde se apresentam, em jeito de conclusão, alguns aspetos que se afigura caracterizarem a realidade dos legados de artista em Portugal e, tentativamente, se procuram identificar possíveis linhas de atuação para o futuro.

Throughout this dissertation and once a theoretical reference framework had been defined, we sought to analyse a series of issues raised by the creation and management of artists' legacies and to explore the role played by the different players in the ecosystem in their preservation, study and dissemination in Portugal. Particular attention was paid to the existence or not of succession planning and the options taken within it, given the applicable legal and fiscal framework. The reflections made, with a focus on modern and contemporary artists, were supported by an analysis of specialized literature and relevant documentation, as well as qualitative data collected based on testimonies from actors with various profiles. This made it possible to identify patterns and challenges that permeate this field, while at the same time providing a deeper understanding of the dynamics between artists, heirs and institutions involved in preserving legacies. The questions raised throughout the dissertation suggest a set of final reflections in which we present, by way of conclusion, some aspects that seem to characterize the reality of artists' legacies in Portugal and tentatively try to identify possible lines of action for the future.
