Abstract

Sendo as novas tecnologias fundamentais para o desenvolvimento de toda a economia, este estudo tem como principal objectivo desenvolver um modelo que nos ajude a entender o grau de aceitação e internalização de novas tecnologias na indústria do shipping. O modelo encontrado, que designamos por UTAUT-S, foi desenvolvido com base no modelo UTAUT aos quais se adicionaram novos constructs (Digital Trust e User Satisfaction). Estes constructs emergiram da revisão de literatura como factores adicionais que poderiam ajudar melhor a entender a aceitação de novas tecnologias no Shipping. Este estudo utiliza uma estrutura de pesquisa quantitativa suportada num inquérito que foi enviado aos principais stakeholders da actividade de Shipping em Portugal e Espanha, num total de 337 inquéritos validados. Esta pesquisa confirma o conservadorismo da indústria do Shipping na aceitação e internalização de novas tecnologias. O modelo desenvolvido, UTAUT-S, demonstra ser o modelo mais apropriado para compreender a aceitação e o uso das novas tecnologias na cadeia de valor do shipping apresentando um valor de R2 de 90,2, significativamente superior ao valor equivalente do modelo de base UTAUT (R2 de 70). A aplicação deste modelo permitirá aos gestores identificar o grau de aceitação das novas tecnologias, permitindo assim identificar as estratégias mais adequadas para a sua mais rápida aceitação e uso.

New technologies are fundamental for the development of the entire economy. The main objective of this study is to develop a model that will help us understand the degree of acceptance and internalization of new technologies in the shipping industry. The model found, which we call UTAUT-S, was developed based on the UTAUT model to which new constructs (Digital Trust and User Satisfaction) were added. These constructs emerged from the literature review as additional factors that could help to better understand the acceptance of new technologies in shipping. This study uses a quantitative research structure supported by a survey that was sent to the main stakeholders of the Shipping activity in Portugal and Spain, in a total of 337 validated surveys. This research confirms the conservatism of the shipping industry in the acceptance and internalization of new technologies. The developed model, UTAUT-S, proves to be the most appropriate model to understand the acceptance and use of new technologies in the shipping value chain, presenting an R2 value of 90.2, significantly higher than the equivalent value of the UTAUT base model (R2 of 70). The application of this model will allow managers to identify the degree of acceptance of new technologies, thus allowing them to identify the most appropriate strategies for their faster acceptance and use.
