Abstract

The waters of the Cabril reservoir are more than just energy producers; they have the potential to host water sports and establish a strong connection between the two banks. Pedrógão Grande and Pedrógão Pequeno, the two villages that border the reservoir, benefit from privileged access to the Cabril reservoir, which serves as a backdrop for various aquatic and recreational activities and enhances the traditional uses of water, such as consumption, irrigation, energy production, fishing, and other leisure activities. This essay addresses the rural realities of these regions, examining the dynamics of agriculture as a form of physical exercise. What is the role of sport in the connection with leisure? How can architecture play a part in the symbiosis of residents’ daily lives with sports? The proposal to reuse an abandoned building to create a nautical station on the banks of the Cabril reservoir strengthens abandoned heritage and promotes nautical activities in the region. The nautical station serves as a center for recreational and educational activities, offering those who live in this space opportunities to engage in water sports in the reservoir. The connections established with other projects and communities highlight the importance of the activities practiced there. The redesign of the Cabril reservoir’s banks contributes to the region’s expansion, strengthening and requalifying the relationship and connection to water as a shared element. This space aims to serve as a manifesto to the challenges faced by the communities in Pedrógão Grande and Pedrógão Pequeno, offering insights into the future of these banks.
