Financeirização, austeridade fiscal e bem-estar social no Brasil: Uma contribuição ao debate

Abstract

Financialization has been extensively addressed in economic literature in recent decades and, more recently, has aroused interest in sociology. This study seeks to contribute to the debate on the (re)production of the process of capture of the economy and the state by the interests of high finance, especially in the Brazilian context. Financialization is characterized by the growing power and influence of the financial sector in the economy and society. In Brazil, this phenomenon is driven by fiscal austerity measures and the shrinking of still incomplete social welfare structures. This article explores the underlying dynamics of this process, highlighting how fiscal austerity policies strengthen financial hegemony, influencing the (re)configuration of relations between the state, the economy and society. By analyzing the impact of these changes, it seeks to understand the implications for social reproduction and inequalities in Brazil, offering critical insights into the contemporary challenges faced by the country on the global stage.
