Fatores determinantes da literacia financeira em Portugal

Abstract

Financial literacy is the ability of people to make informed and effective financial decisions. The most recent studies at European level show that the Portuguese population is among those with the lowest levels of financial literacy, which is detrimental to their chances of ensuring longevity in their financial well-being. This dissertation seeks to contribute to increasing knowledge in the area of financial literacy in relation to the Portuguese reality through a study based on the survey carried out by the Portuguese Securities Market Commission in 2020. The results show that the financial situation and academic qualifications are the main determinants of financial literacy in Portugal and that gender is also a significant factor. On the other hand, age and geographical location did not prove to have a significant impact on the financial literacy of the Portuguese population.
