Água e cidade: Reinventar a cidade esquecida

Abstract

This Master’s Dissertation presents a study on the importance of water in the architectural context and its relationship with the city of Lisbon, highlighting its intimate connection with its history and identity. In this context, this research work deepens the study of the Alvalade Neighborhood, identifying contemporary challenges, due to continuous population growth and the need for interventions aimed at improving the quality of urban life. Using an interdisciplinary approach, the aim is to reflect on the importance of solutions that transcend the mere actions of the architect, promoting a broad understanding of the complexity of the urban environment. Also noteworthy is the creation of multifunctional outdoor spaces, which not only aim to bring environmental benefits, but also aim to create pleasant and inviting environments. In this regard, an architectural project proposal for the Alvalade neighborhood is presented, which aims to incorporate a symbolic relationship with the “water route”, evidenced in the design of squares that house commercial, leisure and agricultural activities. Water, a vital element, stimulates the evocation of memories, adding urban value, identification and contextualization to the architectural project. In short, the project aims to offer a comprehensive and enriching view of the importance of water in architecture and urbanism, as well as the challenges and interventions necessary for sustainable development and the improvement of urban life.
