Software development process improvement is a common goal to both clients and software providers and its achievment should be based on measurement. The definition, collection and analysis of a group of metrics is not a trivial task but it is very important to make consistent, justified and substantiated.decisions. The main goal of this thesis is to provide an approach to evaluate software processes that defines how to select appropriate metrics following the GDSM (Goal-Driven Software Measurement) approach, how to establish measurements as part of the development process and, finally, it proposes the analysis of results set on a knowledge-based system.
