Economia informal no Brasil

Authors: Andrade, Aline Camilo da Silva;

Economia informal no Brasil

Abstract

The workers of the informal economy execute their jobs outside of regulatory frameworks and conventional labor rules, generally do not pay income or capital taxes, nor do they contribute to social security programs, but likewise do not receive the benefits afforded by social security contributions nor income and business tax credits. In this study, the overall subject of inquiry is: “What are the determinants of informality in the Brazilian economy?” With the object of studying informal work in Brazil, it is necessary to understand what influences the high rate of informal work. In the process of this dissertation, another objective will be to discover if the bibliography indicates further evidence that we may discover while employing empirical sources of information, that is, if the determining factors of informality uncovered by investigating authors in their reports also apply to Brazil or not, as other determinants that contribute to informal work may be found. It was apparent in this study that, upon the evaluation of different perspectives and explanations for this problem, the determinants factors of informal work in Brazil are not a product of a single cause, but in fact a collection of several factors, known by various characteristics of the nation and which extend through economic, political and social realms.
