Moeda social, uma alternativa

Abstract

The current context of the COVID-19 pandemic leads us to reflect on how we can overcome the economic, social and solidary crisis that we are experiencing, and will most definitely continue to face in the years ahead. That being so it is essential to prepare for the future and care about the present, along with promoting the well-being of the population. This dissertation seeks to demonstrate that the Social Currency can be a valid alternative to the exclusivity of the market currency, contributing to boost the value of the social and solidarity component of the economy. This notion develops in opposition to the Market Economy, which prioritizes profit-making, and contributes to help fightsocial disparities, as well as mitigate the impact of the financial and economic crisis. Using CLIP- Recursos e Desenvolvimento as an example for the case study, with their social currency "clip", it was asked thatthe members of the association participated in a survey that reflected questions, that can be a good starting point for a debate on the practical application of social currencies as complementary to the market ones, and as a solution to reduce the economic and social impact in times of crisis.
