Photizenship: Perfis, valores e sentimentos nas redes sociais online

Abstract

At the beginning of the 21st century a territory of unprecedented negotiation meanings emerged in the field of visuality, in which photography began to play a decisive role, far beyond the challenge of indexicality Citizenship, which has always been influenced by the citizens’ cultural standards, has been questioned in its essence, above all by the entrance of “new media" into people's personal, social and professional life, with a strong possibility of citizen expression. Visual culture, also influenced by a network communication system, was updated faced with online expressions of citizenship, now enlarged by the variety of sharing and consumption of photographs as a reflection of a will and a concrete visual language Thus we acknowledge the existence of a new territory in the digital space in which the photograph is seen as a dialectical object, open to the discussion of its own production and negotiation of experiences, where the act of photographing is a common practice in several contexts powered by the common use of smartphones, with high resolution cameras. To understand the consubstantiation of the concept of citizenship, its flexibility and the possible new territories in where it shows itself within a context in ever changing mutation, implies a societal challenge at all levels. It is thus imperative to understand the process and the board in which the photographic production and reception take place, above all especially for its influence on the role of digital social construction of a reality and the consequent influence on the dynamics of citizenship.
