Abstract

O Brasil é o país com a maior e mais antiga tradição de emigração portuguesa, embora em regressão desde os anos 60 do século XX. Depois de um início de século a rondar as 500 entradas por ano, em 2010 o Brasil tornou-se mais atrativo para os portugueses, verificando-se, nesse ano, um aumento de 93% em relação ao anterior. O crescimento económico do Brasil na primeira década do século, e a crise financeira juntamente com a intervenção da Troika em Portugal, podem ser fatores que explicam o crescimento da emigração portuguesa para este país, cujo pico se deu em 2013, com um valor aproximado de 3,000 entradas. Comparando três vagas da emigração portuguesa para o Brasil, verifica-se um aumento progressivo da escolarização dos emigrantes portugueses, com uma emigração recente onde predominam as atividades qualificadas entre os chegados na primeira década do século.
