O trabalho por turnos numa multinacional do sector alimentar

Abstract

The purpose of this essay is to understand the way absenteeism is influenced by the negative consequences of working by shifts at several levels such as health, social, physical and psychological. We also wish to analyse the existing relationship between those consequences. The sample consisted of 117 food industry workers in a convenience sample. The main results showed that the negative consequences of shifts didn’t impact or have bad influence on absenteeism. Concerning the connections between the consequences, the results showed us one relationship between the social relations and the day sleep during working nights and those with gastric disturbs. Regarding the analysis by gender the results are different between men and women. Whilst in women each kind of sleep is connected with a certain health problem, in men there is a connection between social relations, the quality of day sleep during working nights and cardiac problems.
