Surdidade: construção social para a comunidade surda

Abstract

The Deaf subject lives an experience similar to those people who are in an vegetative state that are aware of what’s happening around them, but are unable to do something for themselves. Otherwise these people, the Deafs are, however, completely healthy and able to communicate sorely. However, Deaf people see themselves as powerless, disabled, and it’s mainly this that intellectual deaf’s life is all about, nowadays. How can we call all society’s attention towards the daily Deaf’s human rights infractions, underneath good - Will, and generalized nescience about Deaf condition and its culture? How can we ask for responsibility to the whole society group, so that they can take off that foot unheeding left over our necks, so that we can breathe an intellectual active life? The recourse to sociology, in the specific case of this thesis, it’s explained as a mean of striking the Deaf’s biomedical view, that considers deaf as disabled, and a mean to offer a Deaf’s integrate view as a cultural minority with specific characteristic in modern societies. Within the absence of a Deaf Culture, the existing non-territorial culture makes Deaf people privileged targets of defiances inside society itself, because they are excluded from communication around them. Therefore, it’s created a broth of mistrust that marks the Deaf subjects’ lifes, who can only imagine communicate towards the ones that surround them. Sociology can further have Deafs as a case study, amongst stigmatization or politicallabor and educational labelling as disabled people that we are not, and the scholar and familiar unconcern and shame, surprised by the ignorance of those who care for the Deaf but are not aware of what might be the Deaf’s Community status.
