La investigación que sirve de base a este artículo tiene como objeto empírico central a los alumnos de los cursos de educación de adultos del 1.º ciclo de enseñanza básica de la educación recurrente (CEA). A partir de sus posiciones estructurales — orígenes, trayectorias sociales y modos de vida — y de las relaciones que establecen con la literacia en la vida cotidiana, se pretende entender la manera en la que se viven los recorridos formativos en el contexto de la educación recurrente y las implicaciones que tienen en la adquisición de competencias básicas de lectura, escritura y cálculo para el procesamiento de la información escrita contenida en materiales impresos. Esto, más allá de intentar comprender las dimensiones procesales en las que el fenómeno social de la literacia se puede revestir para poblaciones no escolarizadas, y los desarrollos teórico-metodológicos que el uso de las técnicas cualitativas podrá aportar a los estudios subordinados a esta temática.
La recherche qui étaye cet article a pour objet empirique central les élèves des formations pour adultes de l’enseignement primaire récurrent (CEA). À partir de leurs positions structurelles — origines, trajectoires sociales et modes de vie — et des rapports qu’ils entretiennent avec la littératie dans leur vie quotidienne, l’article s’efforce de comprendre comment sont vécus les itinéraires formatifs dans le contexte de l’enseignement récurrent et leurs répercussions sur l’acquisition de compétences basiques de lecture, d’écriture et de calcul pour le traitement de l’information écrite figurant sur des supports imprimés. Il s’agit, par ailleurs, de comprendre les dimensions que peut revêtir le phénomène social de la littératie pour les populations non scolarisées, ainsi que les développements théorico-méthodologiques que peut apporter l’utilisation des techniques qualitatives aux études concernant ce thème.
A investigação que serve de base a este artigo tem como objecto empírico central os alunos dos cursos de educação de adultos do 1.º ciclo do ensino básico do ensino recorrente (CEA). A partir das suas posições estruturais — origens, trajectórias sociais e modos de vida — e das relações que estabelecem com a literacia na vida quotidiana, pretende-se entender a forma como são vividos os percursos formativos no contexto do ensino recorrente e as implicações que têm na aquisição de competências básicas de leitura, escrita e cálculo para o processamento da informação escrita contida em materiais impressos. Isto, para além de se tentar compreender as dimensões processuais que o fenómeno social da literacia pode revestir para populações não escolarizadas, e os desenvolvimentos teórico-metodológicos que o uso das técnicas qualitativas poderá trazer aos estudos subordinados a esta temática.
The key empirical object of the research work on which this article is based is pupils in adult education courses from the first cycle of basic education to ongoing education (CEA). Based on those pupils’ position in the structure of society — origins, social trajectories and ways of life — and their relationships to literacy in daily life, this article seeks to understand the ways in which learning is experienced in the context of ongoing education and its implications for the acquisition of basic reading, writing and computational skills in order to process written information contained in printed documents. An attempt is also made to understand the procedural aspects of the social phenomenon of literacy for those without formal schooling, and the theoretical and methodological developments which the use of qualitative techniques may bring to studies in this area.
