Abstract

A liderança assume actualmente um papel fulcral para a prosperidade e sobrevivência das organizações, devido à globalização dos mercados, ao aumento da complexidade organizacional, à mudança constante, entre outros. Assim, é fundamental que a liderança de uma empresa desempenhe vários papéis que dificilmente poderão ser desempenhados apenas por um gestor. Surge, assim, a concepção de equipa de liderança, em que cada elemento desta equipa terá um determinado papel a desempenhar. Em concordância com o que foi referido, são exigidas aos gestores – da equipa de liderança e outros – novas e maiores competências para lidar com as alterações no ambiente de negócios. Salientada a importância da liderança e do aperfeiçoamento de competências para melhorar o desempenho organizacional, importa mencionar a importância da cultura organizacional e confiança na regulação dessa relação. Assim, a liderança deverá actuar sobre estas variáveis e procurar a sua optimização, pois só assim será possível melhorar o desempenho organizacional e garantir a prosperidade e sobrevivência da organização. A presente investigação procura, deste modo, aprofundar estas questões, ou seja, os papéis que uma equipa de liderança deve desempenhar e as competências de gestão necessárias para o seu desempenho, o papel mediador da cultura e confiança, e, por fim, o impacto no desempenho organizacional de todas as outras variáveis. Neste caso específico, o impacto no desempenho organizacional foi medido em termos perceptivos.

Nowadays, leadership takes a central role in the prosperity and survival of companies, due to market globalization, the increase on organizational complexity, continuous change, among others. Thus, it is essential that a company’s leadership performs multiple roles, which could hardly be fulfilled by only one manager. Consequently, the “leadership-team” conception emerges, in which each member will perform a specific role. Bearing that in mind, it is demanded of managers – from the leadership team and others – new and wider skills to deal with the changes in business environment. Pointed out leadership’s and competence improvement importance to ameliorate the organizational performance, it is nuclear to mention the role of organizational culture and trust to the mediation of that relation. Therefore, leadership should act over these variables and aim for their optimization, because this is the only way to improve the organization’s performance and guarantee its prosperity and survival. The present investigation looks to deepen these questions, that is, the roles which a leadership team should perform and the management’s competencies needed to do so, culture’s and trust mediating role and, finally, the reflex to organizational performance of all the other variables. In this specific case, the impact on organizational performance was measured in perceptive terms.
