Promoção do envelhecimento ativo nas ERPI

Abstract

The increase of aging is a reality not only in Portugal but also in the world and occurs mostly in developing countries. This increase is mainly due to a decrease of infant mortality, decrease in the birth rate and due to an increase in the average life expectancy. In the county studied, Sertã, is no exception. Relatively to Social Working and its relevance in this area, it’s fundamental that the Social Worker act as a bridge between the user and the resources available in society, as well as between him and his family, in order to achieve a full life, based on autonomy and the capacity of having a participative and active life. In the context of the diagnosis for the present project work, a survey was conducted by questionnaires for institutionalized elderly in the county of Sertã and several realities were found, namely loneliness, lack of access to education, lack of exercise of political rights, lack of activities in ERPI and lack of civic participation. Therefore, this project not only intends to intervene but also to promote the active aging in the ERPI in the county of Sertã, aiming to promote the quality of life of the elderly institutionalized and to promote education through Lifelong Learning actions, in a perspective of valuing knowledge and life experiences.
