O impacto do medo e raiva induzidos pela temática do crime e violência

Abstract

The aim of this study was to explore the impact on the Portuguese population related to crime and violence in regards to their emotions, behaviors and attitudes. The experimental study was carried out on a total of 90 Portuguese participants, of whom 60 were emotionally influenced by television or social networks, whereas the other 30 participants corresponded to a neutral group to serve as a comparison. The expected results according to the emotion felt, whether from fear or anger , were expected to be different in relation to the follow variables "insecurity, the fear of crime, protective behaviors, punishment and concern for the victim", which were not anticipated, however it was possible to find some marginal results that could be productive for a new study on the subject, namely the content of crime and violence shown in the media - especially real events - and their influence on individuals in the sense of victimization.
