Abstract

This dissertation presents a comparative study about the reality of venture capital at national and european level in recent years. The data gathered allowed to focus this analysis on the stages and sectorial preferences of national and european venture capital investment. The main conclusion drawn from the analisys is that Portuguese venture capital focus its investments on the Early-Stage and Follow Up stages, this is not the case for european venture capital as their focus is on the later stage investments, particularly Management Buy Out. As for the sectorial investment the main conclusion is that european and portuguese venture capital are very flexible in their investments, however there are two sectors that are most relevant: the consumer goods and the industrial manufacturing and services.
