Efeito dia da semana em mercados acionistas internacionais

Abstract

Este estudo pretende testar a hipótese da eficiência de mercado na forma fraca, i.e., a suposição de que os preços das ações refletem sempre toda a informação pública disponível, através da verificação da presença ou não do efeito dia da semana. Testa-se o processo de geração de rendibilidades de ações segundo as hipóteses «Trading Time» e «Calendar Time». A análise baseia-se na evolução diária dos principais índices acionistas europeus e internacionais, entre 1988 e 2011 e nos seguintes subperíodos: 1988-1998, 1999-2011, 2000-julho de 2007 e agosto de 2007-2011. Os resultados da hipótese «Trading Time» sugerem a existência de um efeito segunda-feira nos índices da Grécia, da Itália, do Japão e de Hong-Kong. A hipótese «Calendar Time» é rejeitada pelos índices da Grécia e de Hong-Kong, concluindo-se que a rendibilidade esperada à segunda-feira não será o triplo da dos outros dias da semana. Por último, constatamos que, segundo ambas as hipóteses «Trading Time» e «Calendar Time», vários índices em alguns subperíodos analisados rejeitam a hipótese da eficiência de mercado, concluindo-se pela ineficiência destes mercados acionistas
