Abstract

Repositories have assumed an increasingly important role in society and have proven to be of great potential for teaching, especially those in which content is available freely and without any costs. With the amount of digital data that enters each day in digital repositories, it is essential that the platforms and repositories can be regularly audited and evaluated in order to ensure not only a correct preservation of information, but also to ensure that information is available at any time. The development of a maturity model provides the necessary means to ensure the evaluation of the archival management, thus allowing evaluating the existing processes and creating new processes required for the proper functioning of the repositories. A maturity model is an assessment tool that enables the identification of strengths and weaknesses of a repository, and the improvement and optimization of its processes, in order to reach a superior maturity level. This dissertation aims to initially describe the theme of digital repositories and maturity models, and subsequently, develop a maturity model to be applied to institutional repositories.
