Abstract

Metaan on kasvuhooneefekti põhjustav gaas, mille kontsentratsiooni atmosfääris mõjutavad inimtegevuse kõrval ka mikroobsed protsessid. Järvesettes toodetakse suur osa looduslikust metaanist, mille vabanemist veekogust atmosfääri takistavad osaliselt metanotroofsed ehk metaani oksüdeerivad bakterid. Selles töös uuriti metaani monooksügenaasi geenide tuvastamise abil metanotroofide esinemist ja mitmekesisust madala suurjärve, Võrtsjärve settes ja vees. Metanotroofe identifitseeriti ka surusääse (Chironomus plumosus) vastsete soolesisust, mis näitab metanotroofide kuulumist vastsete toidulauale ning potentsiaalselt ka biogeensest metaanist pärineva süsiniku lülitumist suure madala järve toiduahelasse.
