El Mioceno Medio de Elda-Petrel (Alicante) II. Geoquímica

Abstract

The Na, K, Mn, Zn, Fe, Sr and Mg of the soluble fraction of 391 carbonate samples belonging to six series of the Middle Miocene of Alicante (Spain) have been analized. The insoluble coarse fraction '(Samite) and insoluble fine fraction (Lutite) have also been obtained. Those variables have been related by means of factorial analysis getting one group made up of insoluble fine fraction, Mn, Zn and Fe and another of Na, K and Mg. The Sr remains isolated and opposed to the insoluble coarse fraction. The elements analized characterize the sedimentary facies, tending to be more abundant in deep water facies than in superficial water facies. The Sr can be used as a paleoenvironments indicator of the marine sedimentation and presents an inverse relationship with the environment energy.
