Abstract

The Catalan translation of the Legenda aurea by Iacopo da Varazze was significantly successful throughout the late centuries of the Middle Ages. In this paper, the procedures of the translation are studied with respect to the place names based on the text transmitted by the incunabula, considering that the are examples which may be evaluated as patrimonial adaptations; but, sometimes, the offered version is the result of ignorance, which may eventually become a transparentization, an erroneous reading or a loan translation.
