Sommerfeld: el eterno candidato al Nobel

Abstract

A pesar de sus importantes contribuciones científicas, Sommerfeld nunca fue galardonado con el Premio Nobel de Física, aunque cuenta con grandes logros que justificarían que se le concediese este galardón, además de poseer varios récords relacionados con este premio y que difícilmente podrán ser superados: Ser el físico con el mayor número de estudiantes de doctorado galardonados con un Premio Nobel, en concreto cuatro (Werner Heisenberg, Wolfgang Pauli, Peter Debye y Hans Bethe). Cuenta con el mayor número de nominaciones al Premio Nobel de Física, concretamente 84 entre 1917 y 1951 (más que ningún otro físico, incluido Otto Stern que le sigue con 82 nominaciones, pero que al final sí consiguió el Premio). En 1929 tuvo 9 nominaciones, entre las que se encontraban las de tres Premios Nobel de Física: Max Planck, James Franck y Max von Laue.
