This piece of work is meant to recognize Manuel Acién Almansa’s career and contribution to the History of al-Andalus through my own academic career and the development of the archeology of Al-Andalus along the last decades. His writings set out a method of understanding and explaining the history of Al-Andalus in the framework of a growing and really dynamic discipline. This work reflects the academic and intellectual atmosphere where his contributions were developed and reexamines the meaning of his life’s work together with its influence on the knowledge of the eastern areas of the Iberian Peninsula.

Este trabajo quiere reconocer la trayectoria y aportación a la historia de al-Andalus de Manuel Acién Almansa, a través de mi propia trayectoria académica y del desarrollo de la arqueología de Al-Andalus en estas últimas décadas. Su trabajos plantearon una manera de entender y explicar la historia de al-Andalus en el marco de una disciplina en formación y muy dinámica. Se refleja el ambiente intelectual y académico en el que se gestaron dichas aportaciones y se repasa el significado de su obra y su influencia en los territorios orientales de la Península Ibérica.
