Abstract

La tomografía geométrica es una rama de las matemáticas cuyas técnicas permiten la reconstrucción de un cuerpo a partir de sus secciones, proyecciones o rayos X. El estudio de esta materia comenzó en el siglo XX y supuso un avance importante en el campo de la Medicina, ya que es el fundamento de los escáneres y resonancias magnéticas. Este trabajo se centra en los rayos X paralelos, es decir, aquellos rayos X cuyos haces son paralelos, dadas las importantes aplicaciones de éstos. Y el estudio se hace sobre los cuerpos convexos planos. Un rayo X de un cuerpo es considerado como una función continua que mide la cantidad de materia encontrada por cada haz al pasar a través del cuerpo. El objetivo perseguido es describir aquellos conjuntos de direcciones en los que hay que tomar los rayos X para que cualquier cuerpo convexo plano esté determinado de forma única por sus rayos X. En la actualidad, hay muchos problemas abiertos relacionados con la tomografía geométrica. Algunos de ellos están relacionados con la caracterización de los cuerpos que pueden ser determinados por un número concreto de rayos X. Otros tienen como objeto las demostraciones formales de los algoritmos que se utilizan en la práctica para la reconstrucción tomográfica.
