Diferencias salariales entre regiones y factores institucionales en España

Abstract

Este trabajo analiza la presencia de diferencias salariales entre regiones en el mercado de trabajo español, prestando especial atención a su origen y naturaleza. Los resultados obtenidos a partir de información microeconómica de la Encuesta de Estructura Salarial muestran la existencia de apreciables diferencias salariales entre las regiones españolas para trabajadores con habilidades productivas observadas similares. Estas diferencias salariales están presentes a lo largo de toda la estructura salarial y sólo resultan parcialmente explicadas por factores competitivos, ya que la insuficiente competencia en el mercado de productos y los mecanismos no competitivos de determinación salarial inciden de forma significativa sobre dichas diferencias. La evidencia obtenida apunta, asimismo, a que la negociación colectiva sectorial es en gran medida la responsable de la diferenciación salarial entre territorios. Así, mientras que la influencia del territorio en la determinación de los salarios es notablemente más acusada para los trabajadores cubiertos por los convenios de ámbito inferior al nacional que por los de otro tipo, las diferencias regionales que se dan en las tarifas salariales pactadas en la negociación sectorial se trasladan claramente a la estructura de salarios percibidos.
