Incidencia de queratitis infecciosa en ortoqueratología: revisión bibliográfica

Abstract

La ortoqueratología (OK) es un tratamiento refractivo nocturno con mucha controversia acerca de su seguridad, especialmente en lo referente a las queratitis infecciosas. Se ha llevado a cabo una revisión bibliográfica en lo que respecta a este asunto, realizando un análisis pormenorizado de los datos proporcionados de cada caso reportado. Conforme a dicho análisis, cabe destacar que la queratitis infecciosa relacionada con el uso de OK ha sido reportada en mayor medida en mujeres asiáticas y con edad comprendida entre 13 y 23 años (adolescentes), lo cual está claramente relacionado con la mayor frecuencia de uso de OK en este grupo poblacional. En lo que se refiere al agente infeccioso, los principales patógenos que causan las queratitis infecciosas son la Pseudomona aeruginosa seguida por la Acanthamoeba, estando esta última asociada al uso de agua del grifo para el lavado y aclarado de las LC.
