Diversidad funcional género y educación

Abstract

Today people, especially women with disabilities are trying to build a new discourse on disability and patterns of normalcy. In a diverse and complex society, they claim the term `functional diver sity´ for conceptually define its position. The use of this term is based on the critical social model and, legally in Spain, on the Law 51/2003 of December 2, on equal opportunity, discrimination and universal accessibility for disabled people, which defines independent living and normalization as follows: Independent living “conditions in which the disabled person exercises the power to decide on their own existence and actively participates in the life of their community, as the right to free development of personality” Standardization: “The principle under which persons with disabilities should be able to lead a normal life, having access to the same places, fields, goods and services that are available to anyone.” We propose in this communication to identify and analyze from a gender perspective the existence of barriers (structural and mental) in the educational field of the disabled people do and how they affect their lives. We work with a sample of 50 life histories of women with physical and sensory disabilities in an age range between 16 and 65. We have undertaken the data processing and analysis through the AQUAD Five program for Windows.
