Desarrollo rural y agricultura: ¿incompatibilidad o complementariedad?

Abstract

Desde hace algunos años están cobrando fuerza en la UE el discurso que aboga por la necesaria diversificación económica de las áreas rurales y por el inevitable carácter multifuncional que debe adoptar la actividad agropecuaria para lograr un desarrollo rural integrado y armónico. La conveniencia de estas actuaciones no significa que haya que potenciar el turismo de manera exclusiva y en detrimento de la agricultura, ya que ésta es la vertebradora del mundo rural, la garantía de la conservación del medio y la base de nuestra civilización.

Este trabajo se enmarca dentro del proyecto de investigación "Los intercambios agroalimentarios entre el MERCOSUR y España ante la liberalización del comercio mundial", financiado por la Dirección General de Enseñanzas Universitarias e Investigación de la Conselleria de Cultura, Educación y Ciencia de la Generalitat Valenciana (Programa de Proyectos de Investigación Científica y Desarrollo Tecnológico, “I+D”, Ref.: GV99-47-1-09) y dirigido por el autor.
