Selvrapportert alkoholbruk hos innsatte i tre norske fengsel

Abstract

Self-reported alcohol consumtion among prisoners in three Norwegian prisons Background: Male prisoners in the three Norwegian prison received in 2006, 2007 and 2008 written request to participate in the study and complete the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) and Drug Use Disorders Identification Test (DUDIT) to expose their self-reported alcohol and substance abuse problems. AUDIT was used in its entirety and DUDIT was partially used. AUDIT ≥ 8 indicates hazardous alcohol use, AUDIT ≥ 13 indicates, according to WHO a processing-intensive alcohol problem and if AUDIT ≥ 20 should be studied and treated by a specialist. Material and Method: Respondents were given a questionnaire to fill. It was filled out on the cell or in a common area of the prison. Participation was voluntary and anonymous. It was considered average, scores on the AUDIT in the total population and in groups. Results and interpretation: Total 391 persons who fulfilled the inclusion criteria participated. It is a participant per cent on 69.3% population had an average AUDIT-score of 13 The entire 42.7% had a score of ≥ 13, and 25.32% had a score of ≥ 20 Violence condemned and respondents without completed primary school definitely scored highest. Conclusion: The study indicates that nearly half the prison population has alcohol consumtion treatment issues. A quarter of the population have alcohol problems that should be investigated and treated by a specialist.
